Medical School: Rocky Vista University
I grew up in Arizona and, yes, I have fried an egg on the side walk and baked cookies in my car. As the child of a pilot, I grew up traveling and love adventuring. I have been to 6 of 7 continents with plans to make it Antarctica one day. I graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Physiology and a minor in Norwegian. I know, sounds weird, but my mother is from Norway. It was a great way to learn more about my culture and heritage and now I can talk to all my relatives in Norwegian which is fun. After undergraduate, I worked as a scribe in the ED for 2 years. I got my EMT license and volunteered for the Crisis Response unit for the Phoenix Fire Department. This experience is what led me to where I am today. I chose Emergency Medicine because of the fast pace and fun environment that requires innovative problem solving I remember my first day as a scribe coming home from work thinking, “These are my people”.
I went to medical school at Rocky Vista University in Colorado which provided ample opportunity for adventure. I love being outdoors, hiking, horseback riding, skiing, mountain biking, etc. With the Rural and Wilderness Medicine Honors track at my school, I learned how to be resourceful and creative when problem solving in limited resource environments. This is a skill I use in the ER everyday.
I chose this residency program because of the people. I did not rotate here but when I interviewed here everyone was so friendly and inviting. This program is perfect for me not only because we see some crazy pathology and do a ton of procedures (the benefit of the program being unopposed), but also because we are a family. We have all kinds of get togethers and can count on each other when we need help with something. I wouldn’t want to do residency anywhere else.
