I grew up in Southern California. My father is a Los Angeles City Firefighter and it was through him that I was first introduced to emergency care. After graduating from high school I attended Brigham Young University. During undergrad I took a brief break in school to serve a two year mission for my church in Japan. I lived in multiple cities but spent most of my time in Tokyo and Nagano. I returned to BYU to finish my undergraduate studies in nutritional science. While finishing my degree, I fell in love with a girl in my physiology class.  I proposed and somehow convinced her to move with me to the arctic tundra of Wisconsin. There I attended the Medical College of Wisconsin.

My interview at Texas A&M-Christus Spohn EM residency was one of my first interviews of the season. I immediately felt at home and was incredibly impressed with the program.  Christus Spohn set the standard for what I compared other programs. I was especially impressed by the residents and the family-feel of the program. I was excited to work in a relatively unopposed program with family medicine being the only other program at our hospital.  We have tons of procedures and run every trauma.

I was anxious to get back to the beach and warm weather after my last Midwest winter. My wife and two daughters (now 1 and 3 years old) were immediately welcomed by the residents and the spouse group. They visit the beach, state aquarium, and what-a-burger weekly. We get together with residents regularly and my family fits in perfectly.
