Texas A & M Health Sciences Center College of Medicine
Hey there! I am a Texas native, originally from Sugar Land, TX. I grew up loving softball, running, being outside, traveling, and spending time with family. I attended the University of Texas at Austin and majored in Kinesiology. I was a mascot at UT my senior year and have bleed orange ever since….Hook ‘em horns! After college, I attended graduate school at UTMB in Galveston and obtained my Masters degree in Physical Therapy. After five years of practice at Texas Children’s Hospital, I decided to return to medical school at Texas A&M HSC in Temple, TX.
Before starting medical school in the fall of 2010, my parents were involved in a serious car accident. They were rushed to Emergency Department at Memorial Hermann in Houston. Fortunately they were ok, but being on the patient side of the ER afforded me a new perspective on Emergency Medicine. The night of my parents’ accident, I decided to make EM my specialty. I wanted to ensure that patients and their families received the same type of care and hospitality that my family did during one of the most difficult times of our lives. As ER docs, we have to see a variety of patients for very short periods of time, and we must be able to accurately and efficiently diagnose emergent conditions with very limited information. I love that we treat everyone that walks through our doors. I love the procedures we get to do, but most of all I love the responsibility of giving patients and their families comfort and care during chaotic and trying circumstances.
With my new found love for EM, I joined EMIG at my school and rotated at Corpus my fourth year for an away rotation. I was able to participate in the Ultrasound elective that was a great opportunity to become aquatinted with one of the most valuable diagnostic tools we have in the ED. From day one, Corpus far exceeded any expectations I had for a residency program. The unopposed nature of the program allows for unparalleled access to staff for one on one teaching, procedures, and allows the ancillary staff to really get to know you. It feels more like a “family” here than simply a residency program. In fact, during my interview here, the program directors talked with me about job opportunities for my husband! I was very impressed that they not only cared about me as a resident but also about my family life.
Since moving to Corpus in June, My husband Glen and I couldn’t be happier! Our Boston terrier Duke also loves it here, especially the beach. We have been able to hang out with my colleges in my year as well as second and third years at the beach, BBQ, pools, and house gatherings. Everyone is very interested in getting to know us and we have felt welcome from day one. I am very grateful to be part of this residency program and urge you to take a trip to South Texas. I am confident you will be glad you did!
