Oklahoma State University

I came to the Texas A&M-Christus Spohn EM residency having grown up in the great state of Oklahoma (go OSU Cowboys!). I completed my undergraduate studies at Pittsburg State University in Kansas and attended Oklahoma State University for medical school. In my free time I enjoy playing sports, fishing, working out, hanging out with friends, and staying active.

Why did I choose this program? I rotated here (and at 4 other very respectable programs) as a medical student. When all was said and done, I found myself comparing every other program to this one. I was impressed with multiple things about this program. The low resident to attending ratio, the unopposed nature of the residency, the proximity to the beach, the camaraderie between all of the residents, and the family feel of the program are just a few of the things that led me to choose to train here. I must tell you that I am extremely happy with the decision that I made during the match process. I love Corpus Christi and this EM residency program very much.

Our hospital is home to only 2 residencies – EM and FM. Here, you don't compete with any other residents for procedures. You alone get to perform every procedure and you get to run every trauma and medical code. In addition, we train at the only trauma center around. Our trauma catchment area extends for 200 miles in each direction from Mexico to the south and north to San Antonio. As a result, we get very comfortable taking care of trauma patients.

Another benefit to working here is that all ER patient care is accomplished with 2 residents and 1 faculty member. This might sound daunting at first, but as a first year resident you are able to treat just as many critically ill and injured patients as your upper level resident. There are no patients or procedures that are off limits for our least experienced residents.

Lastly, I love this program for one main reason---the friendship and camaraderie that exist among all the residents and faculty. There is a social event or get-together at least once a week. If balancing an active social life with a strong training experience is important to you, then you will love this program. Please email me if you have any questions about the program or the match process. Good luck!!!
